Louisa Olsen

Hello! I’m Louisa Olsen, president of LU Dems. I’m a junior majoring in government and minoring in Spanish. I joined the board in the Spring of 2024 as president, and I’m so excited to be leading this club along with my fellow board members.

I first started getting involved in politics toward the end of my time in high school, and quickly knew it was something that I wanted to continue with in college. I did a ton of phonebanking on my own throughout my first year at Lawrence, and then joined LU Dems during my second year. I wanted to be more politically engaged on campus, and dems seemed like a great way to do that. I am so glad I decided to go to that first meeting! Since then, I have gotten more and more involved, and have found so much fulfillment in the work that we do. I love being a member of this club where I can work for the issues I believe in with people who do too, and where I feel like the work I am doing can actually make a difference. Being in Wisconsin, I, like many of our members, am particularly motivated by the ongoing fight for reproductive rights. It is issues like this one, where the potential for people I care about to be in real danger is something I think about daily, that keep me engaged in politics.

In addition to my academics and my political work, I play bass and am in orchestra at Lawrence. I also love to read, baking, tintype photography, and spending time with my loved ones.
